Object Appeared To Be Burning Seen Over Horwich Bolton Lancashire England UK

Time: Approx: 8:00 p.m.

Tuesday 16th February at approx: 8:00pm local time flying north over Horwich, Bolton, Lancashire, England.
It looked almost as if it was burning and there was no detectable noise. At first I thought perhaps it was a Chinese lantern, but it wasn't floating aimlessly, it was definitely moving in a straight line at a fairly steady and swift pace, perhaps as fast as a helicopter might do. I ran in for my binoculars, but by the time I had got them it was out of range and had gone into cloud.
I have never witnessed anything like it before and if it was a "lantern" then it must have been under some form of propulsion. There was no significant wind at the time, in fact it was quite still. Regards.
