Huge Orange Ball Of Light Over Sittingbourne Kent, UK

We were having a BBQ yesterday 10/7/10 and were just chatting in the garden around 21:45 when this huge orange ball caught my eye flying through the sky. I said to my husband, what the heck is that!We both got up and so did my sister-in-law and we watched it travelling east, it was going across the sky with what looked like a slight upward motion. We live in Sittingbourne in Kent and the object was going very fast. It definitely wasn’t a lantern or an aircraft. I thought it might of been a meteor, but it didn’t have a tail. A friend of mine who lives in Sawbridge witnessed a similar thing too? Any ideas as to what this was?
